Rosi Baxter - Artist
Inspired by a love of medieval manuscripts, I produce contemporary imagery and lettering combined with traditional methods of calligraphy and illumination. The delicacy and enduring nature of medieval manuscripts have been a driving force in my imagery- lettering has always fascinated me - the manner of evolving styles, decoration and materials throughout history.

I enjoy the technical challenge in combining script and image, and have achieved a workable balance between the discipline required for gilding and realism, and the spontaneity of initial sketches and lettering.

Gold leaf on vibrant watercolours contrast with large textured and lettered inscriptional panels, gilded stone tiles and framed calligraphy.

Educated - Kesteven & Grantham Girl's School
Loughborough University - one year foundation course
BA Hons. Degree Printed Textile Design
Royal Society of Arts - Awarded 2nd Prize Industrial Design Bursaries

Immediately after graduating I worked freelance for Indesign (London) where my fabric designs sold in Europe & the USA . I later designed & produced calligraphy based Wedding Stationery, which I marketed and sold nationwide - this led to the creation of my distinctive hand painted greeting cards that sell in shops and galleries around the country, including Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.

Since moving to Lincoln in 1993 I have been a full member (and Director) of Harding House Gallery. As well as working on commissions for Heritage Lincolnshire, Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral, Lincolnshire Archives, individual schools & churches and many private commissions, I have taught calligraphy and illumination at Adult Education Centres in Lincoln.
I was a participant in Art On The Map 2000 - 2004, and have opened my studio for the public to see how and where I work.
